Easy Lentil Soup

Do you know what is better than 5 ingredient recipes? Not much, not much in this world is better than 5 ingredient recipes 🙂 !


Lentils are a staple in middle eastern diet and for a good reason as they have many benefits, such as:

Good Protein – Of all legumes and nuts, lentils contain the third-highest levels of protein. 26 percent of lentil’s calories are attributed to protein, which makes them a wonderful source of protein for vegetarians
Increases Energy – Lentils increase steady, slow-burning energy due its fiber and complex carbohydrates. Lentils are also a good source of iron, which transports oxygen throughout your body and is key to energy production and metabolism.
Low in calories – Although lentils include all these beneficial nutrients like fiber, protein, minerals and vitamins, they are still low in calories and contain virtually no fat. One cup of cooked lentils only contains about 230 calories, but still leaves you feeling full and satisfied.
My family is a big fan of soups as well so when my brother requested a lentil soup I just could not say no. With little to no ingredients in the kitchen I set out to make my 5 ingredients soup

2 cups  brown lentils
1 potato – cut in cubes
1 onion – chopped into 4 pieces
1 organic vegetable stock
2 tbsp cumin
Salt & Pepper to taste ( Optional )


  1. Add in the lentils with 4 cups of water,along with the onion  and bring to boil for about 40 minutes or until the lentils are soft
  2. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees C. Cut the potato in cubes, spice up with 1 tbsp of cumin and bake for 40 minutes or until soft ( You have the option to add in 1 tbsp of olive oil if needed)
  3. Once the lentils are soft, bring to a blender and puree. I like to leave 1/2  cup of lentils as they are to make the soup chunky and puree the rest.
  4. Add in the potatoes when done
